Seeking sound and technical excellence

Bio
Tibor Iván (1988) is a world-class accordionist and music pedagogue residing in Helsinki who dedicates his artistry to contemporary accordion music and classical music. His recitals are often enriched by Baroque music and by compositions of Sergei Rachmaninov, Alexander Scriabin, Franz Liszt, Piotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, and others.
After graduating from the Conservatory of Ján Levoslav Bella in 2009 (Banská Bystrica/SVK), he studied at the prestigious Sibelius Academy in Helsinki (FIN) in the class of world-acclaimed concert accordionist and pedagogue Mika Väyrynen. Tibor Iván completed a full university degree in solo accordion playing/classical music performance under Väyrynen's tutelage in June 2016. Besides this, he took part in masterclasses with distinguished pedagogues such as Joseph Macerollo, Elina Mustonen, Stefan Hussong, Friedrich Lips, Janne Rättyä.
Besides performing (as a soloist) at various music festivals (in Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Croatia, Sweeden and Finland) he is also active as a musician performing in chamber-music ensembles (with the flute, cello, piano, and guitar). Among the most prestigious festivals and halls where Tibor Iván performed are Viata e Frumoasa-European Music Festival in Bucharest (RO), the State Theater Košice (SVK), and Slovak Radio Building. During the SNGG studio Art Residence at the New Synagogue in Žilina (Summer 2019/Slovakia) he began a collaboration with a composer Peter Duchnický resulting in a brand-new composition for solo accordion ‘Aspects of Intuition’ dedicated to him. He is also a founder of Tangazzo Quartet focusing on Argentina's new tango and music of Astor Piazzolla.
Tibor Iván comes from Slovakia where he chose to become a professional accordionist at the age of 8. His talent was evident from the very beginning of his career and supported by several award-winnings at various competitions (during his early-studies under the tutelage of Jozef Škamla). Subsequently, he continued to study the solo accordion performance at the J. L. Bella Conservatory in Banská Bystrica in the class of Igor Vlach who recommended him to play the button-accordion.
It is this shift that Tibor Iván considers to be the first key-moment of his career, subsequently to which, his solo career started with a recital in Hungary (at the age of 17) followed by solo concerts all over Slovakia and abroad.
Tibor Iván is a winner of several awards at domestic and international accordion competitions: 2nd prize at IAC Dunajská Streda, Slovakia (2013), the silver prize at IAC in Castelfidardo/Italy (2013), 3rd prize IAC Dunajská Streda (2009), 2nd prize at the Accordion Competition of Slovak Conservatories (2008), the golden prize at the Accordion Competition Tvrdošín (2008 and 2007), 1st place, laureate title and prize for the best interpretation of the obligatory composition Decameron by Milan Novák at the IAC in Poprad (2005) and 1st place and laureate title at Tvrdošín accordion competition (2005). In 2007, Tibor Iván was also sponsored by Rotary Club BB for excellent results.
